Fizzy Fall Punch Recipe

For our first Bev Bar Tuesday of Year Three, we’ve got a crisp and fizzy punch on tap that’s perfect for those early autumn days when summer’s still hanging on, but the chill in the air is undeniable…

  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Fresh Rosemary

  1. Start by making rosemary simple syrup. Combine equal parts water and sugar in a pot on the stove and bring to a boil. Add a sprig of fresh rosemary and reduce the heat, simmering for at least 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Strain the syrup into a jar or other container, removing most of the rosemary leaves. The syrup will thicken a bit upon cooling.
  2. When you’re ready to make the Fizzy Fall Punch, combine cranberry juice with the rosemary simple syrup to taste in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a glass.
  3. Top off the glass with your preference of ginger beer, pouring carefully so it doesn’t overflow.
  4. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig and enjoy!

One of the things I love to do when it comes to making specialty drinks is making my own simple syrup. It’s called “simple” for a reason, and infusing flavors into it just adds a depth to any drink’s flavor profile (mixed or non) that’s unmatched!

When getting ingredients for this Fizzy Fall Punch, I’d definitely recommend going with actual cranberry juice as opposed to cranberry juice cocktail. Yes, actual cranberry juice is much more tart than most people care to drink, but using that will keep the punch from skewing too sweet. And of course, go for your preferred ginger beer over ginger ale for the same reason. And really, who doesn’t love the spicy tingle of a good ginger beer? (I certainly do, but it’s okay if you don’t.) The rosemary simple syrup will add plenty of sweetness, and garnishing with a sprig of fresh rosemary will increase the drink’s aromatics to strike a balance between all of the flavors, from the tartness of the cranberry to the kick of the ginger beer.
