The Gold Dust Woman

BOO!!!! I’m back for another season of Halloween costumes, makeup, and fun photo shoots to spark and spook your imagination to life. This year I’m starting with the singular most fun collaboration – and our first: Miranda from Spooky Little Halloween!!

I knew when I found out she had agreed to model one of the looks for Year Three that it had to be glamorous and whimsical. And this photo shoot was done pre-shut down and quarantine, so I was able to utilize an impressive historic ballroom in downtown STL!!

The main inspiration for this look was the song “Gold Dust Woman” by the iconic band Fleetwood Mac because of all of our collective obsession with Stevie Nicks – and it was Miranda’s most played song of 2019! I took it quite literally and made the majority of the costume gold with fortune teller motifs and free and breezy fabrics. The headpiece was made of a jar lid and spines from an old hand fan, while craft store gems took it to a deity or enchantress type place. I wanted her to feel and look expensive and powerful while also maintaining a very feminine feel!

I thrifted the shoulder fabric and the black sheer fabric hanging from the headpiece, and the other fabrics were scraps from old costumes from Halloween’s gone by! I stitched the fabric of the hand fans to the gold belt and used a fanny pack clip to secure the belt together forming the skirt. We wanted to show this costume in a space that potentially could host a Halloween party! Little did we know the world had other plans for large gatherings, but luckily this costume could have also looked amazing outside in a beautiful field or even in front of a fireplace with a large throne style chair (if you so happen to have one)!

I would again love to thank Miranda for making time to meet up with us, and letting me dress her all crazy seeing that this was our first time meeting in person! This was so much fun and looking back, reminds me of simpler times. But I’m also reminded that Halloween can happen no matter what, as long as you feel creative and want to celebrate. So remember that Halloween this year is gonna be a bit different, but we have you covered with the rest of the looks this season and our tips and ideas on how to truly make this your best Halloween ever!!! Stay creepy!
