The Halloween Maiden

Holy moly you guys – it’s the last week of Costume Trunk Thursday! This week, I truly didn’t know what I wanted to do, and I know a lot of you may be feeling that way with how things are, so I literally just dug in a closet of old costumes and made something up… and I absolutely fell in love with the outcome! I present to you: The Halloween Maiden!

This year has been a crazy ride and I’m sure happy to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! While I was thinking of something to make, I truly wanted to challenge myself to think outside of the box and create an original idea, but from something super familiar!

I asked my dear friend Erin – who you may remember as our Makeup Bag Scarecrow from Year One and The Immortal Mistress from last year – to be my finale model (cuz she is just so stunning!), and I then asked if I could go dig in the closet of Halloween costumes of old (Andrew’s mom’s basement closet!). I found a renaissance inspired costume dress to go with the pieced together remains of a purple curtain style cape I already had. I also threw in a dash of lime green via a lace tablecloth and thus a costume was born! I wanted her to feel royal yet full of Halloween spirit so by mixing all the colors, it made the look feel more whimsical and not too historically accurate.

I was truly struggling with where to photograph her, and then remembered we have a lovely fun and fresh Halloween fireplace mantel – and we also acquired a fun prop throne chair from a friend! So I told her to be the most regal queen she could be while holding all the fun and silly things, from a Halloween gnome to a frightful lantern! This costume really shows with the right knowledge and access to fun pieces, you can create something fresh and festive. And remember: your Halloween decorations make the best backdrop!

I wanna thank Andrew and all of my models for making this year exciting and keeping me distracted with all the crazy going on! I also wanna say how grateful I am to have found the Halloween community! You guys truly help us make our best Halloweens ever so we in turn can help you make Your Best Halloween Ever!! Stay creepy and keep Halloween alive!!!
